Katey Dorothy Bryant

Katey is a well known and respected East Gippsland artist who was born in Orbost and now resides in Sale.

Katey paints and draws because she enjoys the creative process: “I love everything about it – the touch of the brushes, the paints and pastels. I’m in a world of my own”

Katey has studied art at Fulham TAFE and greatly admires Albert Namatjira. Katey’s work reflects her love of story telling from the old days and always illustrates her connecting.

Katey worked tirelessly during 2006 to establish an arts group in Sale. Her hard work came to fruition earlier this year as the group formed. The group continues to go from strength to strength. The group, called Mix Up, is supported by the East Gippsland Aboriginal Arts Corporation. She is immensely proud of the group, their talent and enthusiasm.

Katey won the 2007 NAIDOC Award for Community Contribution – presented by Ramahyuck Co-op.

Katey has exhibited in too many exhibitions to mention including one solo in Bairnsdale. She recently donated artwork to thank Mary G for coming to Sale during Reconciliation Week 2007.
