Frances Harrison

I come from a family of artists that consists of basket weavers to painting burning and jewelry the knowledge has been passed down from one generation to the next.
My inspiration of my art works comes from the sea and the bush of east Gippsland.
My artwork is of the mountains, sea, rivers and the bush, mostly of the water.
The rivers and lakes of East Gippsland have a lot of bird life and sea life which inspires me to produce a lot of images.
I like to paint canvases, draw and craftwork eg. Emu Egg Carving and Jewelry making.
My artistic achievements to date include:
- Designing a set of cards with my artist Uncle and Elder Uncle Billy Harrison, who has since passed on.
- I also designed appointment cards for the Koori dental service.
- I designed a mural at Bairnsdale Secondary College.
- For NAIDOC Week, l worked with Lakes Entrance Post Primary School and made a large banner for the street march.
- I have exhibited extensively with the Lakes Entrance Aboriginal Arts Group and the East Gippsland Aboriginal Arts Corporation.
I have a work entitled “Turtles and crabs”. The work depicts the living creatures in the lily pond. There are many small terrapin turtles and black spanner crabs. All these animals live on and under the lilies in pond.
